One person is dead and another is injured after a small plane crashed in a residential neighborhood in Savannah, Ga.

In a statement shared across its social media accounts, the Savannah Professional Fire Fighters Association said it was notified about a “crashed aircraft with unknown injuries or entrapment” at approximately 9:46 pm on Sunday, Oct. 13.

The firefighters union included a photo of the small aircraft that crashed in the front lawn of a home in the 200 block of E. 66th Street.

“I was sleeping and then you just hear this really loud, almost like a bomb sound outside,” Stefan Domazet, who lives in the residence next to where the plane crashed, told WTOC.

Stefan’s mother, Krista Domazet, told the outlet that the crash was “really scary,” as she “could hear one of the men saying that he was pinned.”

“I just said the emergency services would be here really soon and just try to breath and relax and sit tight,” said Krista.

A full technical team that included the Savannah Police Department responded to the scene to extricate two individuals who were entrapped and needed to be transported to a hospital.

The Savannah Police Department said on X that the pilot died as a result of the incident, and the passenger was left with minor injuries.

A report from the Federal Aviation Administration deemed engine failure the cause of the crash.
