Woman Found Dead in Luxury Hamptons Spa Was a ‘Victim of Violence,’ Police Say

A New York City woman was found dead at a luxury resort and spa in an upscale hotel in the Hamptons, prompting a homicide investigation. 

Sabina Rosas of Brooklyn, 33, was found dead by a staff member at the Water Mill, N.Y. resort on Monday, the Suffolk County Police Department said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.

Police responded to the Shou Sugi Ban House at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, after Rosas’ body was found in a guest room. Investigators determined Rosas had been a “victim of violence,” the statement said.

“Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the murder of a victim whose body was found in a guest room at a Water Mll resort,” it read. “It was determined the woman was a victim of a violence.”

Police believe this was a targeted attack and “appears to be an isolated incident,” Southhampton police said in a statement, per NBC News. There is “no immediate danger to the public at this time,” the statement continued.

As of Tuesday, a cause of death had not been established as police await an autopsy report from the medical examiner’s office. 

The Shou Sugi Ban House spans “three acres of lush Hamptons woodland,” per a Goop review.

It was built in 2019, according to a Vogue spa guide, as the Hamptons’ first-ever destination spa, offering “extensive, culture-spanning healing-arts offerings and life-enhancing therapies.”

Shou Sugi Ban House did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comments.
