Saquon Barkley is engaged!

Barkley, 27, tells PEOPLE exclusively that he and girlfriend Anna Congdon, who share two children, are engaged as he and the Philadelphia Eagles head to the Super Bowl in New Orleans.

“I can’t be the athlete I am and have the success I have so in my career without the help of her,” says the NFL star. “She’s been super helpful and always has my back, not only in football but throughout life there’s a lot that goes on. But as we continue to grow and mature and go through life together, we continue getting closer and continue to get even better.”

Barkley continues, “And it’s a beautiful thing because we have two amazing children that we were raised it and we just sit back and laugh sometimes when they’re over there playing and just smile and think about where everything started.”

Barkley and Congdon — who met at Penn State University and have been dating since 2017 — welcomed their firstborn, daughter Jada, in April 2018. They welcomed their second child, son Saquon Jr., in September 2022.

“And now we got a 6-year-old who’s about to be seven, who knows it all already, and then our son who’s all into toys and trucks and cars and he’s just a boy. He likes fighting, he likes playing football. So we cherish all those moments,” Barkley tells PEOPLE.

“I’d be naive to think that I’ve made it and all the stuff that we are able to accomplish this year was all alone and by myself.”

Barkley tells PEOPLE of his engagement while he and his fiancée, as well as their two children, film a fun commercial for a family-favorite snack, Flipz, at their home in Philadelphia. “Yeah, we’re in the basement trying to keep ’em quiet,” he laughs.

“I’ve been eating them for a very long time,” Barkley says of Flipz. “It’s an amazing snack. It’s definitely a great blend of sweet and salty. I don’t know if you really can name a better snack out there and now it’s cool to see obviously growing up and being an adult and having children, seeing that my kids love it too.”

Barkley’s appearance in Super Bowl LIX also falls on the running back’s 28th birthday. In the week leading up to the big game, Barkley tells PEOPLE he’s in “Super Bowl mode” and defeating the Chiefs is his main focus.

“The best birthday gift you can have is playing in the Super Bowl and the only thing better than that is winning the Super Bowl on your birthday. So plans before or after…I really don’t have any idea or any game plan at all. I’m really just focusing on going out there and playing this game and trying to continue to play at a high level.”
