Rob Lowe Laments ‘Never’ Being PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive

We hear you, Rob Lowe.
During the season 3 premiere of The Floor, Lowe (who hosts the Fox trivia game show) was chatting with a contestant whose category of expertise was the Met Gala, which prompted him to reveal he’s “never” been to the annual glamorous New York City event.
Thinking about the event — which is hosted annually at the Metropolitan Museum of Art by Vogue‘s Anna Wintour on the first Monday in May — and his track record then made Lowe, 60, think about another major Hollywood moment he hasn’t yet experienced.
“Ask me how many times I’ve been PEOPLE‘s Sexiest Man Alive?” he asked the contestant.
“Never,” he said, answering his own question as he pulled a fake crying face to show his disappointment at never gracing the annual issue’s cover.

This is not the first time Lowe has expressed his sadness at never being crowned Sexiest Man Alive.
In 2019, his son John Owen Lowe trolled him about it during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “You should ask him how many times he’s been on the cover,” John told host Ellen DeGeneres, who was showing off that Lowe was featured in the issue’s “Sexy at Every Age” spread.
“You haven’t been on the cover, not for lack of examples why you should be,” she said, which prompted the actor to further lament his lack of cover status.
“I’ve never been the Sexiest Man Alive. Never! There’s always been somebody sexier, and I’m very angry about it.”
He then tried to explain his own logic behind why he hasn’t been SMA before, something he said he’d “spent a lot of time thinking about it.”
“I blame Russian collusion, honestly. This is an election I should have won,” he joked, while his son John begged him to stop, also joking, “Honestly surprised he’s not shirtless right now.”

Lowe is far from the only star to weigh in on his lack of SMA status. Will Ferrell has been on a pseudo-campaign since John Krasinski was named the 2024 Sexiest Man Alive, an effort that originated in July when he told PEOPLE he was “planting the seeds” to get on the cover.
He later joked with Savannah Guthrie on Today that he “got zero votes” despite his best efforts, and she told him, “I didn’t have a vote but I would vote for you.”
