Chris Evans isn’t done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe just yet!

The 43-year-old, known for playing Steve Rogers in multiple Captain America and Avengers films and Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four franchise, may be making his return for Avengers: Doomsday in 2026. The appearance would follow his recent cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine as the latter, The Wrap, Variety and Deadline reported Monday, Dec. 9.

PEOPLE reached out to reps for Evans and Disney for comment, but did not immediately hear back.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to see the return of several familiar faces, including Robert Downey Jr., who famously played superhero Iron Man, portraying Doctor Doom.

The upcoming film is also set to include Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm/The Invisible Woman, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch — seemingly ruling out Evans from reprising that same role. New details regarding the casting and storyline were shared at San Diego Comic-Con in July.

Though Evans has long been known for his role as Captain America, his costar Anthony Mackie will take the title when he and Harrison Ford star in next year’s Captain America: Brave New World.

As for getting to reprise his Fantastic Four role as Johnny Storm/Human Torch in Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine this summer, Evans previously expressed his gratitude to Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy.

“Thank you to Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy for letting me be a part of such an incredible movie!” Evans wrote on an Instagram Stories post in August. “They’re three of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. Special thank you to Ryan for making it all happen. Playing Johnny again was a dream come true and he’ll always have a special place in my heart.”

The Red One star got emotional once again about a week later after Reynolds, 48, publicly thanked him for appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine

“Seeing Johnny Storm (if only for a short while) was like seeing someone you miss come back from the dead in a dream. Way too brief and too lovely to be real,” Reynolds wrote in his lengthy social media tribute. “Goodbyes are hard. It was hard saying goodbye to Chris Evans’ Johnny Storm. But at least we got to actually say it this time.”

“Damn it. There’s something in my eye ❤️,” Evans commented on this post. “There may be an ocean of Chrises, but only one Ryan Reynolds. And he gives the BEST gifts. This one is gonna be tough to beat.”

Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World is set to premiere in U.S. theaters on Feb. 14, 2025. Avengers: Doomsday is slated for a May 1, 2026 release.
