A 22-year-old woman and a 73-year-old man are currently living together as roommates in Australia — and say they truly enjoy each other’s company.

Ella Wilson, 22, moved in with David Cox, 73, in Sydney in September 2024, according to SWNS.

Wilson, originally from Canterbury, England, left home when she was 18 to go backpacking across the world. Eventually, her travels took her to Australia and while she was working in a cafe this year, she mentioned to a customer that she needed a place to live. She then got introduced to Cox, who had a room to spare, and oddly, the two had “lots” in common.

Initially, Cox said he was worried about what life would be like with such a young roommate, and he “didn’t expect” it would last.

“To be honest, I thought it’d be hell,” the retiree confessed, “but I’m surprised at how easy it’s been.”

Their friendship has been the subject of many viral videos on Wilson’s TikTok.

One recent video showed the pair working out together (Wilson says Cox is training to run a 5K), while another showed what Cox’s eldest daughter thinks of the unusual living arrangement.

“This Ella person seems to be a very nice girl,” Cox’s daughter said in a video message to her dad. “If you say she’s like me, then she must be really cool.”

“I love your randomness of having a young housemate,” she added. “It’s great to see you happy.”

As for why their friendship works, Wilson told SWNS that they “never argue.”

“The only time David and I ever disagree, is when he tries to give me cookies when he knows I’m eating healthily,” she added.

There is also one unwritten rule, according to Cox: “One person cooks for us one night, then the other, the following night.”

Wilson said Cox “has really made me feel comfortable” at his home and he’s “absolutely the best housemate I’ve ever had.”

She later added, “I started out as a backpacker — but I have a friend for life in David.”
